“Show me the money!” The quote from the movie Jerry Maguire can too easily be erroneously connected with philanthropy. Many of my friends have the misconception that our donors are extremely wealthy individuals and there is no place for a person with limited funds. In reality, the majority of our donors are people like you and me who believe in what Greenville Health System (GHS) does for patients and give what they can to make sure we can provide the best treatment for cancer patients, a place for a tired parent to rest, and a visit from a four-legged friend to make a scared child feel safe.
In fact, philanthropy is about so much more than just money. Making a difference for the community and showing your support doesn’t have to involve big dollar amounts. This spring, show us the love and help by giving your time. Right now, we have several opportunities for you to get involved in a meaningful way either for free or little cost.
St. Paddy’s Day Dash & Bash
Whether you want to run, walk or volunteer, there’s a way you can support GHS Children’s Hospital by participating in this year’s St. Paddy’s Day Dash & Bash 5K on March 17. Simply use code 2018GHS to show your support when you register—if you’re registering to run, the code will give you $5 off your registration fee. The more people who sign up to run, walk or volunteer using the code, the more funds from the event will go to Children’s Hospital.
Funds received will support the hospital’s Camp Buddy, a day camp for pediatric patients with diabetes. The camp is staffed by medical professionals whose mission is to provide a safe environment for the campers, but also an experience that lets kids be kids. Our campers get to run, climb, swim, have fun and make new friends—all while learning how to cope with their disease.
Sign up today using code 2018GHS.
Dragon Boat Upstate Festival
On May 5, hundreds of participants and spectators will convene at Portman Marina to race for glory and raise funds to fight cancer. Dragon Boat Upstate Festival is an annual event raising funds for local cancer research and survivorship programs through GHS’ Cancer Institute and the South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation. To make this event happen, we need volunteers to help us run everything smoothly and give our participants a great experience. Volunteer positions range from check-in and runner duties to dock responsibilities.
