Prisma Health Children’s Hospital will host debut drive-thru diaper distribution event on Tuesday

Additional COVID-compliant diaper distribution events, sponsored by Healthy Blue, are scheduled quarterly in 2021

GREENVILLE, S.C—Prisma Health Children’s Hospital will host an inaugural community distribution event for its new diaper bank on Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 4–6 p.m.

The diaper bank supports families in the community who need assistance with having an adequate supply of diapers. Each quarter of 2021, Healthy Blue will sponsor a drive-thru diaper distribution event. The drive-thru events will be held at 255 Enterprise Blvd., which is on the campus of Prisma Health Patewood Hospital near its medical office buildings.

Healthy Blue’s sponsorship of $50,000 supplies the bank with diapers all year long and provides at each event mom-care bags with baby organizers, face masks, parenting guidebooks, coupons for diapers and additional items from Pampers.

“Families need support now more than ever due to circumstances caused by the pandemic and the existing need in the community,” said Kerry Sease, MD, medical director of the Bradshaw Institute for Community Child Health & Advocacy, which is part of the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital. “No mother or father should have to choose between feeding their child or keeping a clean diaper on them. Thanks to the help of community partners, we are one step closer to resolving this insecurity.”

According to the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), one in three families report experiencing a diaper need. Additionally, babies who remain in a dirty diaper for too long are also more susceptible to urinary tract infections as well as more frequent cases of diaper rash. The NDBN survey found that 54% of respondents who reported experiencing diaper need took their children to the doctor to treat diaper rash. Of those respondents, one in four took their child to treat diaper rash three or more times in the past year—tying a direct link to child health and health care.

Other distribution events will be held on March 23, June 22 and Sept. 28. To register for each event, visit
